Hey there! I figured I should probably introduce myself and share my story—well, my baking story, to be exact. After all, that’s why you’re here, right? Let me be clear: I’m not claiming to be a baking guru. Far from it. But I’ll happily share what I’ve learned, laugh about what I haven’t figured out yet, and keep it real every step of the way. No fancy certificates here—just a mom with a serious love for baking and a big dream of opening her own bakery someday.
I grew up in a house where cooking grease had its very own home—in the oven. Yes, you read that right. We cooked with grease so often that the oven doubled as storage. Ha! My sweet momma could whip up a delicious meal, but baking? Ehh, that wasn’t really her thing. Or, now that I’m a mom myself, maybe she just didn’t have the time.
But I knew I wanted to be that mom. The one who bakes like a pro. The one with cookies cooling on the counter and a cake in the oven. The problem? I was terrible at it. Even when I followed recipes to the letter, I failed. And I’m not talking small oopsies. I’m talking epic, what-the-heck-was-I-thinking kind of fails. I thought baking was like cooking and that measurements were more of a suggestion. Spoiler alert: They’re not. Oh, trust me—they matter. A lot.
My Baking (Mis)Adventures
My first real attempt at baking was in a Hobby Lobby class with my best friend. I showed up proudly carrying my cake… in a pie pan. Yep. A pie pan. Because that was the only pan I had. Needless to say, the cake cracked right down the middle, and trying to ice that thing? Nightmare fuel. To this day, my friend lives for retelling that story.
Then there was the time I made cookies and forgot the salt. No big deal, right? Wrong. My genius solution was to sprinkle the salt on after baking. Let’s just say it didn’t have the effect I was hoping for.
So yeah, when I call myself a “wannabe baker,” I mean I’m faking it until I make it. But hey, there are some things I’ve nailed—like my cinnamon rolls (my pride and joy). Other things? Let’s just say they’re still a work in progress.
But that’s why I’m here, sharing this blog with you. I want to take you along for the ride as I explore the wild, sometimes messy, but always rewarding world of baking. Together, we’ll tackle tips, tricks, fails, laughs, and maybe even a few victories along the way. So grab your apron, and let’s get baking!
